Mt. Mitchell volunteer fire and medical was established in 1967. Serving Cabarrus and Rowan counties, providing excellent Fire protection and medical service's to our community. Also providing mutual aid to our neighboring Fire department's and there community's as well.
We strive to prevent loss of property and life with adequate fire and medical training that each member goes though to obtain there North Carolina State Fire fighter certification along with there North Carolina State EMT basic certification, to provide the best patient care for our community and the visitors that travel though our district. Mt. Mitchell fire dept. was awarded a 9 S rating from the state fire marshals officer of a ISO rating of 5 that took effect on 04/01/2017.
The rating comes from the department of insurance office of state fire marshal. The system they use is the north carolina response rating system, this system looks at the departments staffing levels, sufficient equipment, proper maintenance of equipment, communications capabilities and availability of a water source ( such as fire hydrants, or ponds were we can obtain water for a fire.) The (NCRRS) rating system ranges from one being the highest and ten being the lowest. A rating of a ten for a fire department is a bad rating because the state does not recognize that department as a certified fire department. A score of five is a great score for residential houses and their homeowners insurance and fire protection. A score of one is the best score the department can have but this score mainly benefits commercial businesses instead of residential housing.
